Specified by survey. Not picked off a hire-desk menu.

Commercial construction does not have a standard floor plate. A principal contractor running a mixed-use block, a concrete frame specialist pouring a steel-framed office, a fit-out team working under an existing roof — none of them are decking an identical four-bed detached for the twentieth time. Every job has a non-square bay, a service riser, a stair void, a long clear span or a piece of steel geometry that rules out the default layout.

That is why commercial work is where Graceland's system-agnostic survey earns its keep. We look at the floor plate, the loading, the span, the programme duration and the trades working above, and we recommend the right system — Trad Deck, G-Deck, or a mix — based on what the building actually wants. Not what is on the hire-desk shelf this week.

What principal contractors and concrete frame specialists care about

A survey that engages with the geometry. On a commercial floor plate the interesting question is not "how many panels do we need" — it is "how do we deck a bay with a 4.2m clear span, a structural penetration in the middle, and a set-down level either side". We answer that question on the survey, in front of the drawing, with the site manager present.

A system recommendation that is not a sales pitch. Trad Deck is familiar, light and absorbs low-level impact. G-Deck Lite offers steel rigidity with lightweight, low-profile components built for fast handling. Both carry a published 2.0 kN/m² UDL. Neither is automatically the right answer.

Technical documentation that holds up to a Cat-A design-team review. Spec sheets that reference the TRAD Safety Deck user guide, the Decking Loadings Chart, and the applicable standards by number and year. Method statements that ties into CDM 2015 and the Work at Height Regulations 2005 without hand-waving.

A crew that can mobilise nationwide on a tight window. Commercial programmes slip sideways more often than housing programmes do, and the deck install is usually one of the trades that has to absorb the slip. We plan for that.

How a commercial install works with us

How a commercial install works with us — Graceland on site
  1. 01

    Drawings and project enquiry

Send the floor plan, area, programme and access details. We measure on paper first and arrange an on-site walk only where the geometry or levels need checking.

  2. 02

    System recommendation per area

Commercial floor plates can use Trad Deck, G-Deck Lite, or both. We assess handling, access, programme and the required platform arrangement rather than giving the whole floor one label by default.

  3. 03

RAMS that hold up to a design-team review

Method statement, risk assessment, competent-persons schedule, inspection regime, dismantle plan — all referenced against the source standards by number and year.

  4. 04

Install sequenced around your frame or fit-out programme

Our crew works around concrete pours, steel picks and fit-out trades rather than expecting them to work around us.

  5. 05

    Documented inspections for long-duration installs

Daily visual inspection plus a documented weekly inspection under WAHR 2005, and a new Handover Certificate after any alteration, impact or adverse weather event.

The system-agnostic argument, in one paragraph

Trad Deck is a fall-prevention platform, and its polypropylene panels absorb low-level impact in a way a steel deck does not. G-Deck Lite is also a 2.0 kN/m² system, but its case is lightweight steel handling, rigidity and fast installation across suitable areas. We compare the real layout and programme, then document the chosen system in the RAMS and Handover Certificate.

05Compliance

Compliance, in the language your principal designer will want

Every deck we install on a commercial project is Load Class 3 under BS EN 12811-1:2003 on Trad Deck runs, with a safe working load of 2.0 kN/m² UDL (inclusive of operatives on the deck) and Class B material fragility under ACR[M]001:2014. Every platform over 2m is inspected and recorded under the Work at Height Regulations 2005. A jointly countersigned Handover Certificate is issued on install and after any alteration, impact, adverse weather event or reported incident. Every operative is CSCS-certified and every install is FASET-compliant. The full Trad Deck user guide, the Decking Loadings Chart and the TRAD Do's & Don'ts poster are available on request and will land with the RAMS pack after the survey.

Who you will be dealing with

Commercial surveys are almost always Paul Darrington or Ewan Craig on site in person — these are the jobs where the per-bay system recommendation has to be made by someone who has been making that recommendation for 30 years. The install itself is run by one of our senior installers, and Paul or Ewan will be back out for the handover walk-through.

Nationwide from St Neots. Core regions: Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Northamptonshire, Buckinghamshire, East Anglia and the Midlands — with commercial jobs happening routinely well beyond them.
